About the short film:
In the vast expanse of modern society, visualised as a towering high-rise, residents from diverse backgrounds coexist, each household weaving its own unique story. These stories span a spectrum of emotions… some joyous, some melancholic, and others capturing every nuance in between. There is triumph and failure, moments of profound loss and sheer celebration, the relentless rhythm of urban life, and serene instances of peace. For some, the day begins with the devine, while for others, it brings the thrill of family bonds and anticipation.
Our short film, “C’est la vie” aims to portray these varied narratives through a blend of music, dance, and acting. Vasumati, a highly skilled classical dancer specialising in the Indian art form of Kathak, is the director and the primary character, conceptualizing and presenting these stories through her dance, acting, and miming. Sanket, the musical mastermind, crafts the soundscape that echoes through the film, perfectly complementing the transitions that underline the concept. Ani, the cinematographer, photographer, editor, and creative producer, brings Vasu’s vision to life on screen capturing the essence of the stories through visual frames.
Together, Vasu, Sanket, and Ani collaborate seamlessly, constantly sharing ideas, experimenting, and inspiring each other to create something unique yet relatable. Their collective effort ensures that each scene resonates with authenticity and emotion, making the viewer deeply invested in the unfolding stories.
“C’est la vie” is more than a film… it is an exploration of the human experience, a celebration of life in all its complexity, beautifully portrayed through the harmony of dance, music, and storytelling. The film invites you to embrace the wonderful chaos of existence. To find meaning in the mundane, joy in the fleeting, and hope in the unexpected twists and turns. This is life, in all its unpredictable, beautiful, and profoundly real moments. Let the stories unfold.

Vasu is the heart and soul of this short film. Not only did she come up with the overall concept, she also played the role of the director and is the primary character across all the stories in this film. She’s a young and vibrant artist trained in the classical Indian dance form – Kathak.
This is her first foray into the world of short films and she strives to come up with ideas and concepts that push the conventional boundaries of storytelling.
Ani is the director of photography, editing and production, taking on the challenging task of interpreting Vasu’s creative ideas and capturing the scenes with the camera to produce the short film.
An avid photographer for more than 15 years, this is Ani’s first shot at cinematography and film making. In this film, he also contributes to various creative aspects, including supporting Sanket in music composition and production.
Sanket is the force behind the music of the short film. Known to be a musical mastermind, proficient in various styles of music, his authentic and diverse compositions add a unique flavour to the stories. Supported by Vasu’s Kathak-based ideas, he blends together Indian and western musical patterns to create a beautiful score for the film.
This is also Sanket’s first taste of directing and producing music for a short film.
